Islamic University of Minnesota Launches Advanced Assignment System Updates
The Islamic University of Minnesota - Main Center has announced the launch of a new package of advanced updates to the Assignment System within its Academic Portal, marking another step in the University's ongoing efforts to strengthen its digital infrastructure and enhance the efficiency of the teaching and learning process. The new enhancements are designed to simplify academic procedures while improving the quality of services provided to both faculty members and students.
The announcement was made through an official circular issued by Dr. Zainab Ali Basiouni, Deputy Vice-President and Dean of Student Affairs, who explained that the upgraded system officially came into effect on Saturday, July 18, 2026. Under the new framework, the system automatically manages all technical processes related to the creation and administration of assignments, allowing faculty members to focus primarily on preparing questions, selecting the assignment format, and determining the grading method. The initiative reflects the University's commitment to employing smart technologies to advance its digital learning environment.
According to the new updates, faculty members may create either one or two assignments for each course. The system also provides two grading options. The first is automatic grading for multiple-choice and true/false questions, enabling the system to evaluate student responses and record grades immediately after submission. The second is manual grading for essay questions, while the system continues to handle all remaining administrative processes electronically, including grade calculation and the automatic closure of assignment submissions at the designated deadline.
The updated system has also been designed to promote fairness and accuracy in assessment by ensuring balanced grade distribution and recommending appropriate numbers of questions for each assignment model. This approach guarantees accurate grade calculations without fractional scores while enhancing the transparency and reliability of the assessment process.
The circular further emphasized the importance of adhering to the announced schedule for preparing and uploading assignments to the Academic Portal well before the submission deadlines, thereby providing students with sufficient time to complete their work. It also confirmed that the portal will automatically close assignment submissions once the specified deadline has expired, ensuring consistency and compliance with the University's academic schedule.
These enhancements represent another milestone in the Islamic University of Minnesota's strategic vision of building a fully integrated digital learning environment driven by intelligent automation. By streamlining academic operations, reducing administrative workload, and improving institutional efficiency, the new Assignment System contributes to delivering a more flexible, effective, and technology-driven educational experience in line with international best practices in digital higher education.
